The Tale of the Orange and Green Doors
The Tale of the Orange and Green Doors: Halloween Style Meets Kerb Appeal. As autumn sweeps through and the evenings turn crisp, the streets come alive with flickering pumpkins, rustling leaves and the unmistakable excitement of Halloween.
For us at Barnet Window Company, this is one of our favourite times of year, not just for the fancy dress and sweets, but because it’s the perfect season to show how colour can completely transform a home’s exterior.
And this year, our stars of the season are standout front doors: a vibrant orange and fresh and elegant greens. Together, they tell a story of warmth, personality and timeless style with just a hint of Halloween magic.
The Orange Door: Warm, Welcoming and Perfect for Autumn
If one colour captures the spirit of Halloween and the cosiness of autumn, it’s orange. It’s the glow of a carved pumpkin, the warmth of a fire-lit evening and the cheerful welcome that makes you feel instantly at home.
Our orange door embodies all of that bold, inviting and full of character. It stands out beautifully against traditional London brick or neutral render, creating a front entrance that feels both lively and elegant. And while it’s the perfect match for the Halloween mood, orange isn’t just for October. It continues to bring energy and warmth all year round, especially when paired with:
- Matt black or bronze hardware for a smart contrast
- Autumnal wreaths or natural wood planters to enhance its glow
- Soft outdoor lighting that highlights its colour even on the darkest winter nights
It’s not just a colour it’s a statement. One that says: “This home has personality.”
The Green Door: Classic, Calming and Timeless
If orange brings energy, green brings calm. It’s the colour of balance, nature and quiet confidence, perfect for homeowners who want something stylish yet understated.
Our green doors have a sophisticated charm that works in every season. It complements leafy garden surroundings in summer and looks just as striking against frosty branches in winter. Deep, earthy tones such as olive, sage or forest green pair beautifully with brass fixtures or patterned glass panels ideal for Victorian and Edwardian homes that deserve a touch of modern elegance without losing their heritage feel.
A green door also carries a lovely symbolism. Across cultures, it’s said to represent prosperity, peace and renewal, a fitting message to greet you every time.
“Our green doors are not just an entrance, they are a promise of calm and comfort inside.”
If You still Have Time to Decorate Before Halloween…
With Halloween arriving tomorrow, there’s still time to give your front door a spooky touch especially if you have a few spare minutes this evening or tomorrow morning. Both our orange and green doors make brilliant backdrops for a last-minute seasonal display, without the need for much effort or expense.
For the Orange Door:
Keep things simple and seasonal. Line the doorstep with a few small pumpkins or squash, add a bundle of autumn leaves or a natural wreath, and place a battery lantern beside the door for a welcoming glow. The orange hue will do most of the work, creating a warm, cheerful feel for passing trick-or-treaters.
For the Green Door:
Lean into the mysterious side of Halloween. Add deep purple or black ribbons, hang a subtle spider-web garland, or set out a pair of black lanterns for a moody contrast. The rich green tone makes any decoration look instantly stylish rather than over-the-top.
And if your door is a different colour?
You can still get in the Halloween spirit with minimal effort.
Neutral or white doors look lovely dressed with bold black and orange accents. Think paper bats, mini pumpkins or a black ribbon wreath.
Grey or blue doors pair beautifully with silver lanterns, white pumpkins and soft fairy lights for a chic autumn feel.
Dark-coloured doors like black or brown come alive with warm copper tones and string lights to create a welcoming glow.
Whatever your door’s shade, a few thoughtful touches can transform your entrance overnight, no new paint or power tools required!
Prefer to skip Halloween altogether?
That’s perfectly fine too. Not everyone celebrates, and your home can still look beautifully seasonal. Try potted chrysanthemums, rustic planters, or a simple wreath made from dried leaves or twigs to capture autumn’s charm without the spooky theme.
And if you’d rather not have visitors knocking, it’s helpful to avoid placing pumpkins or Halloween decorations outside, as these are often seen as a sign that you’re taking part in trick-or-treating. A clear, undecorated doorway will politely signal that you’d prefer a quieter evening, no signs required.
And remember keep your doorway well-lit and clutter-free so visitors can arrive safely tomorrow evening. Once Halloween is over, simply remove any decorations and your door will still look smart and welcoming for the rest of autumn.
